Lessons...

People resort to destructive behavior such as substance or alcohol abuse, hurting oneself, and even overeating because of many reasons. These reasons include lack of support from friends and family and crazy as it may sound – the ego. One may find it hard and difficult to accept mistakes and misfortunes perhaps because of protecting one’s ego. If an individual will just be receptive to “acceptance” and “understanding” about situations and things that happen, especially those that we cannot change, then I doubt that the response would be destructive. If one can simply accept and understand difficult situations/problems, then one will automatically succumb into finding a solution.
Also keep in mind that drowning oneself with alcohol, or hurting oneself will never change anything from the difficult situation that he is in. It will just worsen everything, and may lead to effects that will last a lifetime.
Remember to be easy on yourself. To accept that things don’t always go our way. To understand that we live in an imperfect world with imperfect co-habitants. With these in mind, there can only be room for learning and improvement.
When caught in a difficult situation/problem, do everything to find a solution. And if everything fails, do not be frustrated, “accept” and “learn” from the experience.
It is always good to start with oneself. You see, when we clearly understand ourselves, then it will be easy to understand others as well.
Live and let live… =)
