Media - Social Responsiblity and Power

Kudos to the writer of the movie Spiderman. Who wouldn't remember the line that mr. spidy's grandfather
uttered - "with great responsibility comes great power"?  Concise yet meaningful, right?

Perhaps the most powerful tool of influence nowadays is the media! The media disseminates what's hot and what's not! What's cool or uncool! What trend to follow etc. etc.

How can one forget the People's Power Revolution, ignited by the media?  Remember how the radio was used,  to pursue everyone to go to EDSA and peacefully revolt against Marcos regime of dictatorship? This marked history in the world and initiated a great change- even for the next generation to enjoy!

The most common source of entertainment is the television. Another media tool. This tool starts the "pop culture" in one way or another. Even the most effective form of advertisement is through television.

Subconsciously, the media plays a huge part in our everyday lives. And as responsible audience, we should discern what to adopt and what not to adopt, what to patronize and what not to follow, what to watch and what to skip.  Through this, I believe that the media people will be compelled to produce a more meaningful and substantial form of entertainment. Something that focuses on value formation and righteousness. Something that aims to tell and not just to sell.

The tele seryes (television series drama) is becoming a part of our everyday routine. Little do we realize that this has become a compelling tool on how we deal with our everyday lives. I salute the people behind the serye (series) Dahil Sa Pag-Ibig ( Because of love), the actors, the writers, directors, staff etc. But what moved me was the fact that  "incest" was intuitively justified (even if pascual and reyes were not related by blood in the plot). Maybe I am just being overly sensitive - but even then, this issue is sensitive specially to those who experienced such.   Now, this leaves the responsibility to the adults supervision over the young minds. . . But wait - even as adults we are also vulnerable to what the media instills!!!

Now this is a start of a lengthy argument and study....
